Hydraulic gimbal system for heavy sensor payloads

The OSM 4000 addresses the challenges of data acquisition in the most demanding maritime environments. The gyro stabilizer is equipped with high-precision built-in sensors to detect movements and automatically compensate them to keep the payload in a leveled position. In the further development of the OSM 4000 in 2021, SOMAG demonstrates its engineering capabilities and optimizes the hydraulic system in an unprecedented way. The Mount gathers power and accuracy as an incredible 300 kg (661,4 lbs) can be stabilized with a peak torque of 550 Nm to an accuracy of up to ≤0.4° rms residual deviation from perpendicular. This makes the gyro-based platform suitable for heavy single- and even multi-sensor payloads.

Gyro Stabilization for Imaging Sensors, Radars, Antennas and other payloads

The gimbal system ensures a stabilized and sharp field of view. With a mounting space of Ø600 mm the stabilization platform offers sufficient space for a wide range of large naval sensor systems deployed on frigates and other large ships. The weatherproof design (IP class 67) protects the Mount from environmental influences such as salt- and splash water, enabling flexible use in surveillance and situational awareness tasks above deck in a variety of naval and marine applications as well as on floating platforms for wind lidar stabilization or as an stabilized landing platform for UAVs.

The OSM 4000 now offers an Ethernet interface for easy integration into the surface vessel’s infrastructure. Transmission of external data such as GPS provided by the ship’s internal navigation system over a longer distance can be realized as well as the input of IMU data for improved stabilization in terms of leveling and heading accuracy.
